Zao Onsen & Zao Mountain
The ryokan we stayed in was in a new 8 story building. Owned and operated the the Japanese Department of Defense, it was located just across the street from two large chairlifts. It must be quite busy in the winter ski season. But when we were there it was not very busy. |
After checking in the first order of business was to get some lunch. A local shop owner recomended this place. She was right on target. |
We ordered a bowl of Nabe (vegetables and noodles in a soup) for two, but it was quite large enough for three people |
The nabe was kept hot at the table on a gas fired burner. We are sitting on the floor. Lunch was GREAT! |
Here is the view from our room on the top floor. We could see the distant mountains and the fall colors. Immediately below is a nearby ryokan. |
This is a view of our ryokan (building in the distance) as seen from the bus station in town. |
