Zao Onsen & Zao Mountain

Onsen ryokans are very nice places to stay in Japan, even though they are usually a bit expensive. In addition to soaking in the mineral hot springs another main attraction are the meals that are wserved. They are always gourmet Japanese meals and feature foods that are special to the locale. In this case we eapect some mountain vegetables.

Tsukiko and Yoshiko are quite comfortable and relaxed in their ryokan yukatas after soaking in the hot springs. They are looking forward to dinner.

This dish features some of the local specialties - chestnut, fava beans, and other delicacies

The ryokan meals always have a hot nabe dish. This one has mountain vegetables, salmon and tofu.

The presentation is always wonderful. There were many other courses after this, but I was too busy enjoying eating them to take any more photos.
Next morning we had another soak in the hotspring, a delicious breakfast (buffet style this time, including some western dishes of scrambled eggs and sausage). Before and after breakfast we went on a
walk about the area. -           pnext.gif
