Near Yoshiko's family's home in
the Tokyo suburb of Fuchi-shi is this old warehouse that is used as a
shop these days. The old warhouses and treasure houses had very thick
walls and window coverings so they would be secure during any fire.
Japanese cities and towns, with their light wood and paper
structures, were, and are, quite susceptible to fire. In the back of
the warehouse can be seen the old conventional wooden
structure.
This view of of modern Tokyo was taken from the 28th floor
of the World Trade Center building in Tokyo. We were visiting the
offices of NASDA with our friend, Professor Shigeru (Jerry) Aso of
Kyushu University.
The next day we will go to the newly opened amusement park for adults, Disney Sea -
