Japan 2001

Haguro-san

We left the festival in Ebishima and drove to Mt. Haguro (Haguro-san), one of the three mountains in the Dewa Sanzen area. We visited the Gyokusenji Temple where we had a tea ceremony, and the pagoda and shrine at Dewa Sanzan Jinja.

This is a view from our tea room at Gyokusenji Temple. We had tea ceremony here.

Afterwards we strolled through the gardens a bit.

It was just beginning to sprinkle some rain

Kimura-san can be seen sitting alone back at the tea room

Rain is picking up. Time to head back.

Here is a monk scurring in the rain. Notice his high, one legged getta (wooden sandels)

We are approaching the five tiered pagoda at Dewa Sanzan Jinja

There are no nails, bolts or screws in this structure. Just interlocking wood pieces.

Next we went to the top of the mountan, using a toll road, to see the Dewa Sanzan Jinja shrine-           pnext.gif
