Atsumi Onsen

Steve and Yoshiko are now on their own. Yoshiko is our guide. We went down the coast to the small village of Atsumi. The town is locaded at the end of a steep river valley where the river flows into the Japan sea. There are hot springs there and several ryokan onsens. We stayed at one where we had a lot of delicious gourmet Japanese food and where we could soak in the hot spring baths. The following morning we had some time after breakfast to stroll around the town before catching our train north to our next destination. Here are some photos taken during our stroll.

Here is a view of the rooftops of the town looking downstream toward the sea

Fallen leaves covered the paths everywhere

Yoshiko is mimicking this guard dog at a shrine entrance. Who has the larger mouth?

This wondering monk reminds me of the one we saw 2 years ago at the Zenkoji temple in Nagano. I have a hat like the one shown here.

Hey Jack, were you here? Looks like your Jizos.

This little roadside shrine had a lot of interesting statues. There is one live one behind the post.

This one looks quite grumpy

This fella is even more grumpy

At the train station Yoshiko found this large doll that looks like her.

Here comes our train. Time to go to Kakunodata.

We took the train north along the coast to Akita and changed to another train to the southeast for Kakunodate-           pnext.gif
