Kakunodate

Kakunodate is an old town known for its fine collection of old samurai homes and for its beautiful cherry trees. It was not cherry blossom time but we did see many artifacts made using the beautifully patterned bark from the cherry trees. On these five pages are pictures of some of the samurai houses, the collections inside one of the homes and some of the flora and scenes around the town.

This small samurai house belonged to the famous Matsumoto

Note the old thatched roof and the stones holding the roof down.

A view from the back of Matsumoto's house.

Crossed timbers are used to secure the thatched roof in place.

The Aoyagi Samurai house was quite large and included a museum of many quaint items from 17th to 20th century.-           pnext.gif
