Abe-san's Ebishima Farm House

While we were relaxing around the fire, Abe-san was busy making soba noodles for our dinner.

Abe-san is mixing the soba flour with water and egg in a laquer bowl.

He kneads the dough until it reaches the proper texture. Hanging on the wall to the right is a basket full of bamboo charcoal that Abe-san made in his earthen kiln.

Yoshiko, Naomi and Tsukiko watch the activity.

One of the tricky parts is rolling out the dough. Three different lengths of rolling sticks (pins) are used

The dough is rolled to a very thin rectangular shape.

The dough is folded and rolled again several times

Abe-san was also kind enough to give Steve some Soba lessons-           pnext.gif
