Japan 2001
Mashiko

As we walked about the town we saw many kinds of ceramic ware. The nice artistic stuff was inside galleries and I could not get pictures of it. Instead, I have photos of the commercial stuff we saw in the outdoor displays.

Large jars on the ground and many, many dishes on the tables

I guess these are umbrella stands

A giant ceramic badger

Smaller badgers for purchase

All sizes of Maneki Nekos.

This Maneki Neko was quite unusual. Looks like a lantern

These owls are actually cut from granite and are not ceramic

Back at Ichinoseki we caught the shinkansen for Tokyo. This shinkansen is calles a "Super Max" and has two levels of seating, both five across (2 + 3)

We rushed back to Tokyo so we have dinner at home. Next day four of us, Masako, Michie, Yoshiko and myself would leave early in the morning for a two day trip to the old post towns of Tsumago and Narai -           pnext.gif
