Hakone

Yoshiko's father and sister, Masako, treated us to a weekend trip to Hakone. Included was a tour bus trip to Mt. Fuji which ended at a fancy resort hotel in Hakone. The Hakone area is in the crater ruins of an extinct volcano. Some of the views from the top include fine views of Mt. Fuji.

One of the highlights of the trip was travelling up Mt. Fujii. We went halfway up (1500m) to the 5th station. At this poit the road ends and further travel must be by foot or horseback.

At the 5th station we stopped and enjoyed the tourist attractions. Here is Yoshiko dressed as an 'angel.' At this stop we were given 'lucky bells.' I still have mine somewhere.

Between Mt. Fuju and Hakone we stopped to visit a large temple.

Here is a large carved stone monument at the temple.

We took a boat ride to go to the base of the mountain where there was a ropeway station. We took the ropeway to the top where we were afforded a fine view of Mt. Fuji.

Our resort hotel had a beautiful garden and a large greenhouse with exotic tropical plants.

From the resort hotel we took the public bus to visit a new glass museum. These next images were taken at this museum.
